Saluting Their Service Grant
The Federal Member for Higgins, Peter Costello, today welcomed the announcement of a $4,000 grant for the Malvern Elderly Citizens Welfare Association (MECWA).
"The purpose of the grant is to create a memorial garden in the grounds of the MECWA Independent Living Units for use by residents on days of commemoration followed by morning teas", Mr Costello said.
"The grant has been delivered through the Saluting Their Service programme which encourages community understanding and participation by raising awareness of significant wartime anniversaries, providing education resources for schools, and supporting commemorative events", Mr Costello said.
"As a country we are grateful to those dedicated fellow Australians who put their lives on the line in the service of our nation", Mr Costello said.
