Defence Medal Presentation in Higgins

The federal Member for Higgins, Peter Costello, will present Australian Defence Medals at a ceremony at the Malvern Town Hall at 11am tomorrow, Thursday 17 April.

"The Australian Defence Medal recognises the outstanding contribution that Australian men and women in uniform made to our proud military history," Mr Costello said.

"In the lead up to Anzac Day, it is important that all Australians pay tribute to the contribution made by these servicemen and women in our nation's history", Mr Costello said.

"I am delighted to be presenting the Australian Defence Medal to 11 qualifying men and women. The Medal is an important tribute to those who have given so much for our country", Mr Costello said.

Over one million Australians are eligible for the Australian Defence Medal, which was established by the former Coalition Government on 30 March 2006.

The Australian Defence Medal recognises efficient service of current and former Australian Defence Force (ADF) Regular and Reserve personnel, including National Servicemen, who have served since the end of World War II.

Further information and a special application form for the ADM is available from the Defence website at www.defence.gov.au/dpe/dpe_site/honours_awards/
